Black Ops 7 Freerun Descent Event Offers Leaderboard Rewards
A seven-day timed event in Black Ops 7 awards exclusive cosmetics based on players' leaderboard placement in a freerun obstacle course.

The Freerun Descent Event in Black Ops 7 is a seven-day, leaderboard-based challenge. Players earn exclusive cosmetics based on their fastest time through a timed obstacle course.
The event runs from September 3 through September 10, ending at 10 AM Pacific Time. It features a timed, seven-zone freerun course built around movement mechanics like wall jumps, launch pads, and grapple swings.
Leaderboards reset every three hours, with multiple competitive windows across the week. A player's best time within a single three-hour window determines their final placement for that session. Hitting a higher reward tier automatically unlocks all the cosmetics from the lower tiers.
Event Rewards and Unlock System
Rewards are purely based on leaderboard placement and course time, not on grinding experience points. The event includes limited-time cosmetics such as an animated calling card and a blueprint for the Peacekeeper MK1 weapon. Any cosmetic unlocked during the event is permanently added to the player's account.
According to Dot Esports, the tier system means that placing first in a leaderboard window grants every lower-tier reward down to the Top 30 placement. The rewards cannot be earned after the event concludes on September 10.
Strategy for a Fast Time
Players should treat their initial attempts as trial runs to learn checkpoint locations, grapple points, and tight jumps. Falling off the course sends a player back to the last checkpoint, which resets the time for that obstacle segment and adds a respawn penalty. A slightly slower but clean run will typically beat a faster, fault-filled attempt.
The guide advises dropping risky skips that cause consistent failures and sticking to a reliable route first. Mastering the grapple mechanic is key; players should chain grapples into launch pads to clear large gaps efficiently. "Slow down slightly before key grapples, position yourself, and treat the grapple like a catapult instead of mashing it," the source suggests.
Once a consistent route is established, players can begin experimenting with advanced techniques. These include skipping jumps, using wall jumps to change lanes, and combining grapple swings with launch pad boosts.
Tracking Progress and Placement
Players can check their current standing and the tier thresholds by opening the in-game Events screen and navigating to the Freerun: Descent Challenge. Each three-hour leaderboard window offers a fresh opportunity to compete for a top spot and the associated rewards. The event structure, with its frequent resets, is designed to give players multiple chances to improve their rank throughout the week.
