A guide from Dot Esports details the new Perks system in Overwatch 2, where every hero can unlock two Minor and two Major...

Every hero in Overwatch 2 now has access to a new Perks system, offering unlockable upgrades within each match. According to a guide from Dot Esports, players must level up their chosen hero twice during a game to select one Minor and one Major Perk from two available options each.

Switching heroes resets the leveling progress, but Perks will unlock faster on the new pick. If a player switches back to a hero they had already leveled, their previously selected Perks will still be active. The system introduces both callbacks to old abilities, like Bastion's Self-Repair, and entirely new upgrades.

All Damage Hero Perks

Damage heroes, or DPS, gain Perks that amplify their offensive output, mobility, and ability utility. The guide lists initial examples for heroes like Anran and Ashe.

For Anran, Minor Perks include 'Smoulder,' which makes ignited enemies burn 1.5 seconds longer, and 'Short Fuse,' where impacting an enemy with Inferno Rush reduces its cooldown by 1.5 seconds. Anran's Major Perk options are 'Heat Shield,' granting 50 overhealth when using an Ultimate and for each enemy ignited by it, and 'Hungering Blaze,' which increases the healing of Dancing Blaze's subsequent strikes by 25 percent.

Ashe can choose between 'Remote Detonator,' allowing Dynamite to be manually detonated after a delay, and 'Double-Barreled,' granting an extra use of Coach Gun after a knockback. Her Major Perks are 'Viper's Sting,' dealing 25 extra damage for two consecutive scoped shots on a target, and 'Airburst,' which increases Dynamite's airborne detonation radius by 40 percent and refunds six ammo when thrown.

Perk Strategy and Impact

Understanding Perks is key for anticipating both allied and enemy capabilities in any match. The Dot Esports guide states, "Perks are key to know about, whether it's yourself, your own allies, or the enemy team, so you can have an idea of what's to come."

Each Perk is unique to its hero and has the potential to be game-changing. The guide notes that new heroes will receive their own Perks when added to the game, with updates planned for every other season. The article was updated on September 13, 2026, to include changes from a September patch and Perks for the hero Doctrine from a BlizzCon trial.
