Slouchy began playing Overwatch in 2016. She was not a major fan of shooter games but connected deeply with the game's story and heroes. Her bond with Tracer was immediate. "My connection with Tracer was immediate," Carolina said. "She was the poster girl back then, so you could not really avoid her. But it was her personality and optimism that got me."
She described Tracer as proudly and openly herself, a figure Slouchy saw as the person she was too afraid to be. The release of the "Reflections" comic, which confirmed Tracer's relationship with Emily, coincided with Slouchy's own journey of self-acceptance. Seeing Tracer embrace her identity helped Slouchy explore her own. "I have Tracer to thank for who I am now," she stated.

"It was another case of seeing a character have some of my traits and interests and being loved for it instead of bullied," Carolina noted. She enjoys the subtle in-game details that show how smitten Tracer is with Emily, such as Tracer wanting to tell Emily about a kill streak or imagining vacations together.
Slouchy hopes for more story-focused events like Questwatch and Junkenstein's Revenge: Wrath of the Bride to bring other off-screen characters to life.
