Activision has released the launch patch notes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, detailing 20 multiplayer maps, 33 weapons, and critical stability fixes ahead of the game's global release on October 23, 2026.

Activision has detailed the launch patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, establishing the competitive foundation for the new season. The update, which precedes the global release on Friday, October 23, 2026, introduces 20 multiplayer maps and 33 weapons alongside numerous performance fixes.
The patch focuses on new multiplayer maps, weapon customization, movement improvements, and gameplay changes ahead of the game’s October 23, 2026, release. It delivers 20 maps split across several core competitive formats. The roster includes 12 core 6v6 maps, three large-scale Ground War maps for 32v32 battles, and four dedicated Gunfight arenas for 2v2 duels. Over a dozen multiplayer modes will be available, including standard fare like Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Search and Destroy. New modes such as Inflation, Hijack, Collateral, and Combat Outpost will also debut.
The confirmed map list is as follows:
| Mode | Map Names |
|---|---|
| Core 6v6 (12) | Cachette, Coal, Lithium, Lotus, Mumbai, Munition, Nautical, Reactor U92, Rooftops, Sentry, Silkworm, Transit 213 |
| Ground War 32v32 (3) | Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium, Forest |
| Gunfight 2v2 (4) | Cafe, Library, NYC, Smuggler |
Weapon Roster and Class Customization
The arsenal for the new season is extensive, with 33 weapons available at launch. This includes 20 primary weapons, 8 secondary weapons, and several melee options. Weapon camo progression will be shared across Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone. Each slot offers six choices designed to balance speed, durability, utility, and stealth.
| Perk Slot | Available Perks |
|---|---|
| Perk 1 | Quick Fix, Overkill, High Alert, Ghost, Resupply, Kill Chain |
| Perk 2 | Hardline, Blood Rush, Bomb Squad, Fast Hands, Ninja, Birdseye |
| Perk 3 | Lethal Reach, Combat Grid, Battle Hardened, Scavenger, Tracker, Cold-Blooded |
Tactical Sprint is now enabled via the Blood Rush perk, with a single-tap input set as the default. Weapon tuning has been applied to ensure balance across all classes, and the Gunsmith now requires manual builds, though in-match edits are automatically saved. The update also brings 17 killstreaks and improvements to tactical equipment.
Critical Stability and Performance Fixes
A major component of the launch patch addresses stability and bug issues identified during the beta period. Multiple crash fixes have been implemented, including a server crash that could occur during Multiplayer matches and a specific crash when breaching a door in the Breaking New Ground mission. The patch resolves an issue where match completion events were not being properly recorded in Multiplayer and DMZ.
Other corrected bugs include the Seeker Drone incorrectly deploying out of bounds, the After-Action Report showing 0 XP after a player's first match, and the ISO Apex Attachment not functioning as intended in DMZ. Enemy AI behavior was also fixed to prevent them from moving into unintended areas when a player is downed during Breaking New Ground. General improvements target audio issues, visual glitches, and DMZ bugs.
Progression and Quality-of-Life Updates
Player progression extends to Level 55 and beyond, introducing two Prestige paths for the first time in the series. Several quality-of-life improvements have been made based on beta feedback. Spawns have been reoriented for more consistent flow and reduced distance to combat. The game has reduced or eliminated pre-game countdown timers and added logic to start pre-loading maps earlier to avoid slowdowns.
Visibility has been improved by reducing blur size on splashes. The Gunny tutorial system received a facelift, with improved positioning and reduced notifications. The update also adds missing destruction audio for various destructible objects across Multiplayer maps. A new dynamic map supports both 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight at launch, and communication around Shared Attachments has been improved. The game will go live at 12am local time on Friday, October 23, 2026.
