Valve released a Counter-Strike 2 update on October 28 that added new mutators and fixed several bugs. The update introduced a 'Big Head' mutator in Casual mode, where player heads enlarge with more kills and shrink with deaths. This framework is designed to support multiple future mutators. Valve also updated its official X.com account profile picture to show a character with an oversized head.

Other changes included a toggle option for silent reload mode, allowing players to release the reload key after the animation begins. Valve fixed an audio defect where reload sounds played for nearby players even during silent reloads. A rendering bug causing liquid surfaces to appear black on AMD graphics cards was corrected, alongside sound and UI bugs during demo footage rewinding.

New weapon discovery

Following the update, community dataminers discovered references to a new weapon named 'LAR' in the game files. Dataminers Thour and Gabe Follower found LAR weapon files and an inventory icon in the game client. The files indicate a Winchester-style, per-bullet reloading mechanic. All LAR materials are currently stored in a 'do_not_ship' folder, confirming the weapon is unreleased and still in development.

LAR details and pricing

The LAR is described as a lever-action rifle with a five-round capacity, requiring manual lever operation after each shot. It features a holographic sight and a 3x zoom similar to the AUG. Initial reports claim its hipfire spread is poor, recommending scoped shooting for accuracy. According to dataminer Gabe Follower, the LAR's damage and armor penetration are claimed to match the AWP's. The weapon is priced at $4,100, making it cheaper than the AWP but more expensive than standard rifles. The following stats are based on unverified leaks.

Unconfirmed status

The LAR's final model and exact stats are expected to change before any official release. All current information stems from datamined files and should be considered speculative. Prominent dataminer Gabe Follower shared these insights in a YouTube video, but Valve has made no official announcement about the LAR weapon.
