Wolves Esports defeated A Team 2-0 on Wednesday 21 October to open their VCT Threshold China 2026 campaign. The victory in Shanghai ended a two-match losing streak and propelled Wolves into the event's quarter-finals.

Wolves took the first map in 43 minutes and secured the series with a 54-minute second map. This win marked their second over A Team this year, having previously beaten them 2-1 on 8 August during VCT China Stage 2. Before this match, Wolves had won only one of their previous five series.

Wolves' recent form and head-to-head history

Wolves entered the match ranked 245th in the Elo power rankings with a rating of 1389. Their record stood at 39 wins and 51 losses across 90 rated matches. Their most recent defeat was a 2-0 sweep by KeepBest Gaming in the China Evolution Series Act 3 2026.

Their Stage 2 campaign was a mixed bag, featuring losses to top teams like FunPlus Phoenix and EDward Gaming alongside their earlier win over A Team. The head-to-head history showed A Team had managed to take a map in that previous encounter, but offered no resistance this time.

German coach Alexander ‘alexRr’ Frisch took over as head coach on 19 May 2026, leading a roster that includes Spring, yosemite, Deryeon, aluba, and glacier. Spring has been with the team since 17 January 2024.

China's VCT restructuring

Wolves' victory comes amid a major restructuring of China's Valorant partner landscape. The region will reduce from ten VCT partners to eight for the 2027-2028 cycle. Wolves are one of four current partners set to lose their status. Sheep Esports stated, "The team is one of four current VCT China partners to lose partner status for 2027-2028." They join Sheep Esports, FunPlus Phoenix, Nova Esports, and Titan Esports Club in exiting the partner league.

The Threshold China event itself is the final event of China's Nationals season, replacing the old Valorant Challengers circuit under an Ascension-style format. Thirteen teams are competing at THE HUB Performing Arts Center in Shanghai. Week 1 features a single-elimination bracket running from 21 to 25 October, with every match being a best-of-three except the best-of-five grand finals. Two teams will earn guest team spots in VCT China for 2027 from this event, which Liquipedia rates as an A-Tier competition.

A Team entered the event unranked and has now lost four series in a row. Wolves will face KeepBest Gaming in the quarter-final on Thursday 22 October.
