The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is a paid expansion set to release in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is a paid expansion that will launch in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The release date has not yet been announced, but the expansion is already available to wishlist.
The story begins with Geralt arriving in Letten, Dandelion’s homeland, after the bard disappears. The opening quest, A Bed of Thorns, shows Geralt waking up hungover at a local Belleteyn celebration and searching for Dandelion. He visits the de Lettenhove estate, meets the bard’s family, and learns that a curse tied to an ancestor, Count Humbert de Lettenhove, may be the cause of the disappearance.
Letten is presented as a new open-world region roughly the size of Blood and Wine. It is located in northeastern Redania and has escaped much of the warfare that affected places like Velen. The demo revealed lakeside villages, forests, farmland, and rural festivals. NPCs now perform more detailed routines, such as shepherds moving sheep, carts rolling through settlements, and villagers returning to their routines after the Belleteyn festival. The expansion’s release schedule can be tracked in the standings section.
Lilla, Dandelion’s cousin, becomes Geralt’s main companion during the search. She is a new romance option, and the demo showed flirtatious dialogue during the quest. The developers confirmed that romance content is optional, allowing players to keep Geralt loyal to an existing partner. It is still unclear how the romance will interact with existing relationships in saved games.
Gameplay remains true to the core Witcher formula, with sword combat, Signs, alchemy, investigation, dialogue choices, and exploration. The expansion also incorporates the changes from The Witcher 3 Remastered, such as smoother combat animations, revised enemy behaviour, improved movement, an adaptive camera, and reworked character progression. Geralt’s new weapon is a silver chain, inspired by the weapon he used against a striga in The Last Wish and the first Witcher game. The chain can be thrown quickly or aimed, and it pulls ranged enemies toward Geralt, separates creatures from groups, and opens up defenses that swords cannot reach. Details on the chain’s stats are available in the stats page.
New monsters appear in Letten, including Swarmions that attack in groups, the Slumbering Knight, a skeletal creature covered in roots, and Thorn Flowers, which can attack from underground and fire large poisonous projectiles. The demo showed Geralt using the chain on a Slumbering Knight to break its guard and create an opening.
CD Projekt Red is co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory, the studio behind the remake of the first Witcher. Several former Witcher 2 and 3 developers, including Jakub Rokosz, are involved. The idea for the expansion dates back to the original Witcher 3 development, and senior writers and designers revisited the concept.
The expansion will also bring new quests, characters, secrets, and points of interest, with settlements packed more densely and NPCs given more detailed routines and dialogue than before. The final detail to note is that the expansion will be sold separately, unlike the free DLC that previously accompanied The Witcher 3.
