Dplus KIA Qualify for Worlds 2026 with LCK Playoff Win

Dplus KIA have qualified for the 2026 League of Legends World Championship. They earned Korea's final Worlds spot by beating KT Rolster 3-1 in the LCK playoffs lower bracket.

The match began poorly for DK. Siwoo and Career combined for 12 deaths in a lopsided first-game loss. After a team talk from coach cvMax, the squad turned the series around. Smash delivered a Man of the Series performance across picks like Lucian, Jhin, and Miss Fortune.

This qualification ends a difficult two-year period for the organization, which won Worlds in 2020. DK missed the 2025 tournament entirely after a playoff loss to T1. The subsequent offseason saw Aiming and BeryL depart, replaced by Smash and rookie support Career to join Siwoo, Lucid, and ShowMaker.

A Season of Ups and Downs

The new roster placed third in the preseason LCK Cup and posted an 11-7 record across the first two rounds of the regular season. Their first chance at an international event was blocked by KT Rolster, who defeated them 3-2 in the Road to MSI bracket, keeping DK out of the Mid-Season Invitational.

Their fortunes changed dramatically at the 2026 Esports World Cup in Paris. DK won the tournament, beating Bilibili Gaming, defending champion Gen.G, and sweeping Karmine Corp 3-0 in the final. Smash was named finals MVP, while ShowMaker lifted his first international trophy since 2020.

The Playoff Path to Worlds

Carrying that momentum home, DK finished the LCK Summer regular season with a 17-9 series record. They were tied with T1 but placed fourth in the Legend Group due to game differential. Key results from their run included two wins over KT Rolster and a late 2-1 victory over Gen.G. A final-week 2-0 loss to Hanwha Life Esports, however, forced them to start the playoffs in Round 1.

KT Rolster promptly swept them 3-0 in that opening series, sending DK to the lower bracket where another loss would end their season. They survived elimination by reverse-sweeping BNK FEARX after being down 0-2, setting up today's decisive rematch with KT.

The Stakes Against T1

With their Worlds slot secured, DK's next match is against T1 on September 6 in Lower Bracket Round 3. Both teams are already qualified for Worlds 2026, but the playoff seeding remains critical.

The loser will finish fourth in the LCK playoffs and enter Worlds as the LCK's fourth seed. The winner advances to the lower final on September 12, staying alive for a higher seed from the Korean region.
