ESIC imposed a lifetime ban on Hungarian Counter-Strike player Tamás 'playN' Palkovics on October 16, 2026. The permanent exclusion replaces his earlier three-year sanction from the NOMERCY match-fixing case, which was originally set to expire on April 23, 2029. The revision followed public posts the 22-year-old made after ESIC published his original penalty.

Breach linked to social media posts showing cash

ESIC cited Tamás' social media activity as the direct cause for the upgraded ban. The commission stated the posts displayed apparent cash and other proceeds of financial crime. They also carried comments about match manipulation findings, betting payouts, and a return to competition. One screenshot appears to show the player holding a large amount of cash, with a caption referring to a return to the Roman Imperium Cup in 2029. ESIC called this "an egregious breach that created the appearance of improper conduct." The commission made clear the decision does not find, from the photographs alone, that the money shown were match-fixing proceeds.

ESIC outlines basis for decision and warns others

In explaining the lifetime ban, ESIC pointed to several aggravating factors from the original NOMERCY investigation. These included Tamás' 'central leadership and calling role', his involvement in map veto decisions, repeated participation in the flagged gameplay, and his complete refusal to cooperate. The commission also sent a warning to other sanctioned participants, stating that a fixed-term ban grants no immunity from further enforcement for actions taken while suspended. While Tamás had initially cooperated, which led to his lighter original sentence, ESIC stated that assistance did not excuse his later conduct.

Context of the NOMERCY case and related sanctions

The lifetime ban stems from the NOMERCY investigation, which covered five players involved in Roman Imperium Cup VII. The probe examined four best-of-1 group stage matches, all played on March 28, 2026, all of which NOMERCY lost. The initial sanctions varied based on cooperation and findings.

Tamás, then 22, had initially received a lighter three-year sanction due to his detailed responses, production of financial and communications records, continued engagement, youth, and relative lack of experience. His upgraded penalty now matches the lifetime ban given to Oliver 'kzy' Heck.

ESIC will enforce ban and refer case to authorities

The ban bars Tamás from all covered ESIC and Member competitions in any capacity. ESIC will notify its membership so they can enforce the decision within their powers. Also, the commission will help refer the sanctioned conduct to Valve, relevant government agencies, and law enforcement. ESIC stated it will seek permanent exclusion where proven conduct and the protection of fair competition justify it. "ESIC says Tamás now has no scheduled return to ESIC Member competition in April 2029," the commission noted. The final decision was sent to the player by email.
